Artefact 2 - AFFM Animation Clip
Audio for multimedia
Planning
When it came to choosing my clip I had decided that I wanted my clip to be funny and have some sort of comedic aspect to it. This is why I eventually decided upon a clip I found on YouTube called "The Egyptian pyramids - funny animated short film". I chose this clip because the humour is simple and I can apply simple aspects like muting sounds and adding silly effects to make the scene more engaging for the audience. When picking this scene, I rewatched it a couple times to notice subtle details and how challenging some moments could be, for example the Pyramid head moving. I had to somehow put myself in that situation to come up with what the sound would sound like if the viewer was actually in Ancient Egypt and in front of the pyramid. After finalising the clip I wanted to use, I then began to use a website called SoundQ, where I would begin to look for sounds that might fit best in this particular scene. An example of this would be the camel. There is not a lot of Cartoon sounding camels online, so I had to improvise by using sounds like a dog chewing a toy and pitching the sound to best fit the moment. Another example of this is the Man in the video, He doesn't speak so you have to heavily rely on things like his body movements, gasps and screams.
Sounds Im Proud Of
Throughout this project, I have found many different unique sounds here are some that stand out the most to me.
The Pyramid head moving -
This sound was made by using a scraping stone sound effect that I had pitched, warped and duplicated using sampler. Each track is a different pitch and speed. I used the panning feature to match when each section of the head moved from left to right.
archaeologist gets flung -
For this scene, I decided to cut out all the background noise and music so the viewer attention is on the guy flying out the pyramid. The silence adds to the scene, making it more humorous and unexpected.
Difficulties
Some difficulties with this project were definitely the fact that I didn't use any Foley on this project and only relied on stock audio clips from SoundQ. This made finding clips a lot harder. Even though this was a drawback I did enjoy finding clips and tweaking this as it helped me build new editing skills within the DAW.
