Artifact 1 Daw Trck
For my first Artefact, I have chosen my DAW track. This artefact shows my ability to work on time with deadlines and create a track based on set instructions. This also shows of my creative and technical ability and shows my understanding of making tracks, sound design skills and working within certain guidelines. In this assessment I had to guarantee that my project had certain effects on the track, had the use of automation, at least 2 synth patches with 8 types of synthesis Aswell as using midi and recorded aspects. This artifact will also show the skills from which I learnt from this unit. This includes Automation, sampling using a sampler instrument, designing synth patches through ranges of synthesis, file management skills demonstrated through project workflow, using midi techniques through recording notes using a midi keyboard, mixing skills using EQ
and dynamic effects on the track. In the mixing stage of the project, by applying EQ appropriately to the samples and instruments, I will ensure the mix is held to a professional standard. I will be working on this track both at college and at home and have organised folders on an extended hard drive to ensure recordings, samples and sessions are easily accessible.
Artifact 2 Recording & Mixing
For my second Artefact I will be using my recording project from the recording and mixing assessment. This will demonstrate my ability to record live performances while working to a timescale and deadlines, managing studio sessions, ensuring clear communication and mixing. This will also show my knowledge of microphone techniques. I'm going to be recording in both mono and stereo Aswell as using D.I. This track will also show off my knowledge of polar patterns such as cardioid, hyper cardioid, omnidirectional etc. Working in the studio, I will be making sure that gain levels are set appropriately Aswell as the routing of cables and making sure that cables are patched into the correct inputs and outputs for proper signal flow. It also shows my ability to work towards a deadline as well as collaborating with other artists. It also shows my ability to use a studio session and arrangement. I will be mixing and mastering for this project, I will level the mix and will be using EQ for creative and corrective purposes. I will be using effects such as delay, compression, reverb, echo and melodyne for my vocals on the track. I will also apply the knowledge from my skills and business module for this project as i will have a recording plan and recording contract in place.
Artifact 3 Multimedia
I will use my sound for multimedia project as an artefact in my graded unit. I will a original score for a piece of media so this will show my creative abilities musically and knowledge as well as showing my abilities in sound design editing, working to a timescale and working within assigned parameters. I will use layering, EQ, compression, and automation to achieve the desired sound. This will also show my ability to work towards deadline in a suitable timescale as well as my ability to create while following parameters. This artefact will show the skills I have gained through all the units I have completed so far such as using a DAW as I will use Ableton, using markers and mapping samples to the keys and triggers, automation and dynamic processing, as well as panning, balancing, levelling and mixing.
